about frank kozik's ludwig van (a clockwork beethovan)

KOZIK_LUDWIG

Frank Kozik's going all-out with his Ludwig Van (A Clockwork Beethovan) bust with his concept mashup of both classical music and celluloid-icons. (above images show the initial and final prototype-sculpt by Brin Berliner and is not edible, thanks :p). on the higher-end is a 16"-er Victorian-styled bronze-on-marble bust (marble with gilt-base) with an edition of 20-units @ US$3000-per, and for the vinyl-connoisseur, there is the US$200-vinly-version slated for a SDCC 2008-release ... Frank has mentioned that there will be both a WHITE and ORANGE-colorway for the vinyl (which i have photoshopped below for thrills LOL)

my impressions and opinions were divided over Ludwig Van - both intrinsically affected by watching Stanley Kubrick's (brill) A Clockwork Orange: prior and afters. intrigued by the mashup-concept of a Beethovan-bust (Alex's "hero" in the movie) and of the Droog's signature bowler-hat and the eye-lashes, the concept first smacked of "yet-another-signature-Kozik-motif"; as taken previously by his Ultraviolence Qees, Nades, Dunnys etc ... a design-deviation (if not concept) from his anarchy+redrums, and even Mao, Ho Chi Minh and Stalin (but without the cigarette ;p) - but still busts/statues in-spirit ... if he be labeled a "hack"? then he's doing it gloriously well, ennit? LOL

... but after relishing A Clockwork Orange on DVD (only last week :p) it is such a deceptively simple-concept-mashup; it's interesting brill! LOL (such is the power of "media", ennit? at least for me lah) - straight to the source, i reckon ... but would Joe-Blow "get it?"

Art for Pop-Culture Consumerism?

personally, i think tis one thing to create something out of "nothing" (which in this day and age, is harder than anyone realize, given the daily-onslaught of concepts from any and all genres), but tis another to use existing pop/historical icons and to make something out of them. im not too sure if Beethovan would be rolling in his grave about this (altho im sure he would've rawked his mascara), but i reckon Kozik-lovers and pop-culture-collectors will dig this, IMHO :)
